Did you catch President Obama’s speech to the Hispanic caucus this week?
There were two highlights.
1. When quoting the Declaration of Independence, the President chose the second paragraph, which reads:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights…”
Can you guess which word our President left out? Exactly, “Creator.” This from our devote Christian President speaking before a group typically well connected to Christianity. It demonstrates the degree to which our President toes the line of the Leftist ideology. It demonstrates the degree to which the Left attempts to ignore the fact America was built upon Christianity, and to this day is largely a Christian nation (you may not like it, but the data shows it to be the case). It demonstrates the extent to which the Left has twisted the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Shameful Mr. President.
2. As our Professor in Chief, Obama attempted to school America on exactly who can lay claim to the soil we have called the United States of America since the 1780’s. He had this to say:
“Let me close by saying this. Long before America was even an idea, this land of plenty was home to many peoples. The British and French, the Dutch and Spanish, to Mexicans, to countless Indian tribes. We all shared the same land.”
Note the emphasis on Mexico. Can you image our President has such a inaccurate understanding of how American was founded.
Hey, Mr. President, Mexicans didn’t really exist until the late 1700’s, early 1800’s, and then only in connection to the newly named Mexico City. Mexico wasn’t Mexico until 1821, and even then everyone wasn’t “Mexican.” The land named Mexico was before that occupied by indigenous people more closely related to the Indian populations that dotted the landscape of what would be called North America.
As for the populations on the land acquired in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848, while they were certainly descended from the Indian populations of the Southeast and lands south in what would become Mexico, their numbers were small.
Obama was playing to his audience. He must have assumed, as we all can see around us, many in his audience pledge their allegiance to a country other than the United States of America.
Once again, Obama toeing the Leftist line. America oppressed Mexicans and stole their land, a land they can still claim their own. We’ve heard this line before.
