QUICK THOUGHTS
HEY, MAYOR BLOOMBERG, ALWAYS TRY TO BUY AMERICAN: NYC has announced Nissan Motors of Japan has won the $1 billion contract to supply the next generation fleet of New York City taxi cabs. Shame on Mayor Bloomberg and his administration. The once Democrat, then Republican, then Independent, and always liberal, was quick to try and jump out in front of what should be a widespread negative reaction by noting none of the bidders in the process, including Ford, intended to make the vehicles in America. Be that as it may, we should always try to buy American. My guess is, since I haven’t yet seen the details of the bidding process, the bids were probably competitive, with some margin of error. Assuming my guess is correct, when choosing between perfect substitutes, always choose the American brand even it not made in America. When you can’t buy made in America by an American company, as is often the case at this time in our history, then focus on American brands and the importance of the control of profits. This type of story in the early 1980’s would have raised a roar across the country. We’ve lost touch with the importance of buying American, particularly when it is American tax dollars paying the bill. This is another example in a 35 year list of examples where a lack of nationalism will benefit foreign nationals at the expense of American citizens. Bloomberg is a-national, a globalist. He is too big for America. The world is his playground.
