The Veterans Leadership Council-Cares was recently founded to help fellow North Carolina veterans get control of their lives when they are facing extremely difficult situations such as homelessness. The Council has developed programs to compliment and augment the existing programs currently in place through the VA and HUD. These programs address problems such as substance abuse, mental health counseling, basic and trade education and life skills mentoring. The Council is currently working on a project to build The Veterans Life Center which will be a closed campus site with 24/7 security and programs. The Center is based on the successful programs developed at the Veterans Village of San Diego. The Council's goal is to work with existing systems. Their completed grant package will have the support of Senator Burr's office, the Durham VA Med Center, the Raleigh Vet Center, Wake County HHS, the City of Raleigh, the Wake County Sheriff , the VFW and American Legion. The Council has recently made an offer on a proposed building site to begin the building process and additional donations are needed to complete the sale. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated for this worthy organization. Their website is www.vlcnc-cares.org for additional information.
