CCP officials and Chinese state entities poured donations into UC Berkeley: Report

Newly obtained donor records revealed that hundreds of thousands of dollars have flowed from entities linked to the Chinese government into the coffers of the University of California, Berkeley, one of the most prestigious public institutions in the nation.

Members of the Chinese Communist Party, a sanctioned Chinese research university, and Chinese state-owned enterprises have all routed donations to UC Berkeley, according to documents received by the Washington Free Beacon via a public records request. The outlet’s report came on the heels of the Trump administration launching an investigation into the university over its failure to disclose a $220 million research deal with China’s Tsinghua University — a state-run institution with deep ties to the People’s Liberation Army.

Tsinghua isn’t the only Chinese university with questionable ties that UC Berkeley has financially entangled itself with. The University of Science and Technology of China sent $60,000 to UC Berkeley to support its chemistry program in 2023. Just a year later, the Department of Commerce blacklisted the Chinese university for “acquiring and attempting to acquire U.S.-origin items in support of advancing China’s quantum technology capabilities, which has serious ramifications for U.S. national security given the military applications of quantum technologies.”

Texas Residents, Lawmakers Raise Concerns Over Planned “All-Islamic Community” Near Dallas

 In the heart of Texas, controversy is brewing over EPIC City, a planned 400-acre “all-Islamic” community that critics say would effectively operate outside American law. The ongoing debate over the project has also raised fresh concerns about so-called “Islamization” in other parts of the country.

According to EPIC City’s website, the development, which the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) announced in 2024, will be “a community aimed at serving the needs of the Muslim community” that “brings Islam to the forefront.” It will feature 1,000 homes, a K-12 Islamic school, a mosque, apartments, health centers, commercial shopping, and even a community college – in theory, residents won’t ever have to leave the compound.

While EPIC City initially garnered little media attention, local residents and online influencers have thrust it into the spotlight. Amy Mek, founder of the organization Resistance Against Islamic Radicals (RAIR), has been a particularly vocal critic, posting footage from community meetings of Texans opposed to the project.

In one clip Mek posted on X earlier this month, a woman who identifies herself as the daughter of a Guatemalan immigrant explains why she believes it is wrong that the developers of EPIC City are aiming to create an Islamic compound separate from the rest of the community.

“We didn’t come here to build a Guatemalan Catholic compound,” she said. “We assimilated. We became American. Why is EPIC building a city where everything is Islamic – the school, the mosque, the fitness center, even the medical clinic? That’s not diversity. That’s ideological takeover. This is not okay with the American people.”

As Mek also reported, Douglas Deaton, a retired police lieutenant from Collin County, where the EPIC City site is located, has alleged that EPIC has already created a “Sharia-controlled enclave” that has “operated as a religiously exclusive neighborhood.” That enclave reportedly includes the “UIF Corporation,” a Michigan-based company whose own website states that it exists to “engage in financial transactions that are Sharia compliant.”

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — America’s only rare earths mine heard from anxious companies soon after China responded to President Donald Trump’s tariffs this month by limiting exports of those minerals used for military applications and in many high-tech devices.

“Based on the number of phone calls we’re receiving, the effects have been immediate,” said Matt Sloustcher, a spokesperson for MP Materials, the company that runs the Mountain Pass mine in California’s Mojave Desert.

The trade war between the world’s two biggest economies could lead to a critical shortage of rare earth elements if China maintains its export controls long-term or expands them to seek an advantage in any trade negotiations. The California mine can’t meet all of the U.S. demand for rare earths, which is why Trump is trying to clear the way for new mines.

Rare earth elements are important ingredients in electric vehicles, powerful magnets, advanced fighter jets, submarines, smartphones, television screens and many other products. Despite their name, the 17 elements aren’t actually rare, but it’s hard to find them in a high enough concentration to make a mine worth the investment.

Tariffs will impact ore supply and costsMP Materials, which acquired the idle Mountain Pass site in 2017, said Thursday it would stop sending its ore to China for processing because of the export restrictions and 125% tariffs on U.S. imports China imposed. The company said it would continue processing nearly half of what it mines on site and store the rest while it works to expand its processing capability.

There are plenty of economic justifications for placing tariffs on China. But bringing American manufacturing home and rebalancing global trade isn’t just about dollars and cents; it’s about keeping our country safe, our troops ready, and our enemies in check.

As a retired Air Force colonel who’s seen the world’s dangers up close, I’m telling you: we can’t keep outsourcing our strength to a rival power like China. Here’s the unfiltered truth on why tariffs matter for our national security.

China has got us by the throat when it comes to manufacturing military equipment. They’re pumping out everything from the rare earth minerals in our missiles to the chips in our drones, and we’re just handing them the keys to our arsenal.

In 2024, the United States imported $438 billion in goods from China, and they produce around 90 percent of the world’s rare earths. You think that’s an accident? Hell no. That’s a chokehold, and in a fight – whether it’s a Cold War-style standoff or a hot war in the South China Sea – they can squeeze tight. Imagine trying to keep our F-35s in the air or our Navy’s destroyers running without those materials. We’d be grounded faster than a C-130 in a sandstorm.

That’s not even to mention semiconductors. Those little chips are the lifeblood of modern warfare – critical for guidance systems, comms, you name it. China has a big slice of that pie, and we saw in 2021 how a chip shortage nearly ground this country to a halt. Ford couldn’t even get enough F-150s out the door. Now imagine how quickly every fighter jet, tank, or missile system could be rendered useless.

In a conflict, China could instantly turn off the tap of dozens of materials critical to our military readiness. Our drones go dark, our missiles miss, and our boys and girls in uniform are left swinging in the wind. That’s not just a supply chain hiccup; that’s a national security disaster.

Harvard’s ‘resistance’ to Trump isn’t about science or academic freedom

The school would rather lose $9 billion in federal funding than offend the left and give up woke indoctrination policies that enable and encourage antisemitism.

It’s nice to know that the school that is widely considered to be the most prestigious institution of higher education in the United States is willing to stand up for its principles. Unfortunately, the main principle for which Harvard University is standing up—and earning deafening applause from liberal elites in politics and the media—is the right to go on enabling and encouraging the hatred of Jews.

Of course, that’s not the way the political left is spinning the announcement that Harvard would defy the demands of the Trump administration to cease its tacit support of the surge of antisemitism since the Hamas-led terrorist attacks in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

For Trump’s “progressive” opponents who have acquired near-total control of higher education in the United States, the demands are unacceptable. They would rather lose federal funding, which is crucial to their survival, than end discrimination in admissions and hiring rooted in the woke catechism of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) that creates viewpoint uniformity that excludes conservatives and supporters of Israel. They also refuse to adopt disciplinary policies against those who advocate for Jewish genocide and harass Jewish students, or prevent the pro-Hamas mobs on their campuses from wearing masks while they commit their acts of intimidation and violence.

For the far left, their refusal to treat antisemites the way they would bigots who threatened African-Americans or Hispanics is a heroic act of “resistance.”

China recruiting current, former U.S. government officials as spies

China is using consulting firms, headhunters and think tanks to aggressively recruit current and former U.S. officials as spies, according to a federal counterspy unit.

“Foreign intelligence entities, particularly those in China, are targeting current and former U.S. government employees for recruitment by posing as consulting firms, corporate headhunters, think tanks, and other entities on social and professional networking sites,” the National Counterintelligence and Security Center stated in a one-page warning.

The warning was echoed by the FBI on X. “China and other foreign intelligence entities are targeting former and current U.S. government employees on social and professional networking sites,” the bureau said in a post.

The FBI is the lead federal agency in charge of domestic counterintelligence. It declared on its website that Chinese Communist Party spying is “a grave threat” and top counterintelligence priority.

Chinese spies are using sophisticated deception ploys, including job offers and other virtual appeals to target people with government experience who are seeking employment, the counterintelligence notice said.

Federal government paid group to secretly text children about sex

The federal government spent more than $27 million on a nonprofit that texts sexually explicit health advice to children, tells them how to use sex toys and tests them for HIV without notifying or seeking permission from parents.

The Center for Innovative Public Health Research said researchers obtained “waivers” from a review board under the oversight of the Health and Human Services Department to secretly enroll children in government-funded studies of teenage sexual behavior.

Researchers at the center, administering a program on teen pregnancy called “Girls2Girls,” explained they did not want parents to know about their children’s involvement.

“We were granted a waiver of parental permission so that girls who wished to participate would not have to put themselves in a potentially unsafe situation by disclosing their sexual identity to their parents,” Center Director Michele L. Ybarra wrote in a report about the program.

Researchers said the program tested ways to lower pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers as young as 14, through text messaging and to determine if the program “helps teens make healthier choices.”

Teen birth rates are on the decline in the United States, HHS reported. The department cited interventions such as sex education and access to contraception.

But critics say the secret HHS studies, even though aimed at cutting teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, violate parental rights.

“It’s deeply unethical, and this has been going on for 10 years,” said Hannah Grossman, a researcher and reporter with the Manhattan Institute who uncovered the non-profit’s secret texting program. “Parents are not aware that there are adults texting their children about sex and sex activities. And this has all been funded by the federal government.”
